Battle Of Wills (expanded edition)

by Tymon Dogg

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Two vinyl albums - the original "Battle Of Wills" album and a bonus album with six studio and seven live tracks in a beautiful gatefold sleeve which opens up to display hefty liner notes from Tymon Dogg fan Ian A Anderson, former editor of Folk Roots / fRoots and expert on elusive musical brilliance. All tracks have been carefully remastered, the original artwork restored (and modified to update the track listing) . . . the whole package is as fantastic as one could hope.

With the exception of a few tracks here and there, this album has been unavailable since its 1980 release. As the last release on Dick O'Dell's Y label (also home to Slits, The Pop Group, Shriekback, Sun Ra and many of the groovier post-punk acts), the album was never easy to track down and went out of print quickly.

The bonus studio tracks include "Indestructible", the b-side to Tymon's "Lose This Skin" - one of the rarest of Clash singles, as the band wasn't even crediedt on the original 7", even though the a-side appears on their Sandinista! album, plus five other studio tracks previously found only on a now out-of-print CD called "The Irrresistible Tymon Dogg", and seven live tracks from a Tymon Dogg performance at Hurrah in New York City in 1980, captured on tape by filmmaker Merrill Aldighieri. The unreleased live performance captures a few oddities not even released in studio form, including the first-ever (prescient!) song by The 101's "Dog Dirt On Your Shoe", "Johnny Is A Wanderer" and several other choice selections.

Includes unlimited streaming of Battle Of Wills (expanded edition) via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

about

Tymon Dogg's bewildering career has taken him from the classic pop-psych single he recorded as a teenager, "The Bitter Thoughts Of Little Jane", to a session at Apple Records which saw him abscond with the masters after he felt they were trying to turn him in an idol à la "Herman of Herman's Hermits", which preceded a brief foray on The Moody Blues' Threshold label which produced a solitary Justin Hayward-produced 7", through to his tutelage of Joe Strummer before and during The 101'ers and across large parts of The Clash and The Mescaleros' careers . . . ironically seeing some of his most popular years opening shows for the like of Poison Girls, and recording for Dick O' Dell's amazing Y Records, also home to The Pop Group, Sun Ra, Shriekback, Glaxo Babies, The Slits and many others.

In fact, Tymon's 1982 album for Y "Battle Of Wills" was the last release from from any artist on the pioneering independent label. It remains the only of Tymon's releases to have received even meagre distribution, but we aim to change that!

This greatly-expanded reissue consists of the twelve songs from the original album, a rare b-side, "Indestructible" plus five other studio rarities, and a blistering seven-song set from a 1980 show at NYC's Danceteria, featuring the only extant recording of the first song ever performed by Joe Strummer's band The 101'ers, "Dog Dirt On Your Shoe".

This reissue features extensive liner notes from Ian A Anderson, editor of Folk Roots / fRoots and is fully-authorised by Tymon himself.
